Hot-Rolled Steel Bars
Hot-rolled steel bars are supplied as round or square semi-finished products manufactured to customer specifications for the automotive, mechanical engineering, plant engineering, fastener and petrochemical industries.
Using electric arc furnace technology, GMH Gruppe produces more than 500 steel grades while keeping CO₂ emissions low. Precision rolling mills form the steel into hot-rolled bars with tight dimensional tolerances. Specific material properties can be adjusted through heat treatment.
Inspection certificates according to EN 10204, type 3.1 and, for selected heat-resistant and low-temperature tough grades, type 3.2 TÜV, are available depending on the product and order specification.
In addition to order-based production, GeisslerWista complements the GMH Gruppe portfolio through stockholding, steel trading and further-processing services. Selected grades are available from stock for short-term supply enquiries.
For applications requiring tighter dimensional tolerances and a further-processed surface, bright steel is also available in tolerance zones h9 and h6, depending on the diameter and processing route.

Case-Hardening Steel
Case-hardening steels are designed for components that require a wear-resistant surface combined with a tough, ductile core. They are widely used in automotive, mechanical engineering, and power transmission applications where high fatigue strength, wear resistance, and long service life are essential.
GMH Gruppe supplies case-hardening steels in accordance with EN ISO 683-3 in a broad range of dimensions and specifications. Thanks to their low carbon content, these steels offer excellent machinability and toughness before heat treatment. After carburizing or carbonitriding, they develop a hard, wear-resistant surface while maintaining a tough core capable of absorbing dynamic loads.
Typical Applications
- Fastener Industry: High-strength fasteners and fastening systems
- Petrochemical Industry: Components for equipment operating under demanding service conditions
- Mechanical Engineering: Gears, shafts, transmission components, and other power transmission parts

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between case-hardening steel and quenched and tempered steel?
Case-hardening steel has a lower carbon content and is carburized and hardened to achieve a hard, wear-resistant surface with a tough core.
Quenched and tempered steel achieves high strength and toughness throughout the entire cross-section by means of the quenching and tempering process (hardening + tempering).
Which standards apply to GMH Gruppe steel bars?
The applicable product and material standards depend on the selected steel grade and product group. The portfolio includes bearing steel according to EN ISO 683-17, selected quenched and tempered steels according to EN 10083-3, and hot- and cold-temperature steels according to EN 10269.
The applicable dimensions, supply conditions and inspection certificates depend on the selected grade and order specification.
Which standards apply to hot- and cold-temperature steel bars?
GMH Gruppe supplies hot- and cold-temperature steel bars in accordance with EN 10269. The materials comply with DIN 17240 / DIN 17280 and AD 2000 Merkblatt W2 / 7W / W10 and the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU.
Inspection certificates according to EN 10204, type 3.1 and/or type 3.2 TÜV, are available.
Which certifications apply to GeisslerWista GmbH?
GeisslerWista GmbH is certified according to ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 for the manufacture and processing of bright steel and hardened shafts. These certifications apply to the stated scope of the respective management systems and are not product certifications for all GMH Gruppe steel bars.
Does GMH Gruppe supply steel bars according to ASTM standards for the petrochemical industry?
Yes. We supply steel bars in accordance with ASTM A193 / A320 / A370 and EN 10269 for applications in the oil and gas industry as well as the petrochemical industry — with inspection certificates in accordance with EN 10204-3.1.
